Proverbs 18:21[21] "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit."

Look at some of the following examples of how we speak. I will leave the blanks for you to fill in. A note of caution, everything you say that is harmful to yourself, harmful to others, or harmful written down, is harmful for you in your physical/spiritual reality as well. There is so much power in the words of our mouths.

I am ________.

It makes me want to ________.

I want ________.

That makes me feel_________.

I need ________.

_____ makes me ________.

I desire________.

_____ is really (i.e. hard ) for me.

I always________.

______ always happens to me.

I know_________.

______ is always happening.

I have_________.

______ never works out right.

I don't want-(etc...)___

_____ just keeps getting messed up.

God does________.

______ is what I really want.

I keep on ______.

______ is my true desire.

I feel ________.

______ is how I handle these situations.

I feel like _______.

______ will never happen.

Whenever we fill in these blanks with words that are negative we are destroying ourselves.

If you continuously say, "I always get sick whenever someone else is sick.", then you are creating this fact for yourself. How many people have you heard say something like, "Oh whenever someone gets the flu, I'm always the first to get it next!" And then what happens? They are not lying to you when they make this statement. They are the first to get it next, because they said so believing it would happen. Where is the biblical proof for this? Listen to the words of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Mark 11:23

"Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it shall be him."

Notice now that Jesus is not saying, 'Whoever says to this mountain in My name in a prayer while being filled with faith and standing firm on that faith, etc...' Jesus is referring to all the words of our mouths and all of our beliefs. Faith is easily defined. When we have faith in God, all we are doing is believing that which He said to be true. Some other examples of our faith can be demonstrated through our daily life. When you go to turn on a light switch, you believe, or "have faith", that because of you're flipping the switch, that a light is going to come on.

This is a simple example of faith. When you put gas in your car and turn it on, you expect it to run and operate normally, provided you've taken care of your car and all of its necessary maintenance. This is an example of faith. When you use money to buy something, you believe, or "have faith" that it is going to be accepted and that the merchant will gladly accept your money, even though it is only a colored piece of paper, because it is backed up by the government. All of these are examples of faith.

Now, when you act towards others you also are using faith. For example, if you say to your wife, "that dress makes you look fat," you expect her to be angry and believe that as a result of the words of your mouth, that she will be angry. This is an example of the faith Jesus is talking about in regards to all the words of our mouths. When you praise someone for doing something correctly, you believe that you will make them happy and for the most part, unless the person is unreasonable, this is the result.

If you were to say to your wife, "You have the most beautiful smile of all the women on earth." You expect her to smile, say thank you, and be pleased because of the praise that you have bestowed upon her. So also, when you say something along the lines of, "Well, whenever someone else has the flu, I'm always the first one to get it next." What are now believing and expecting to experience? To get the flu whenever someone else around you has it, and more often than not, what do you experience? Getting the flu whenever you are around someone else who is sick. Keep these examples in mind as we go over the various words of Jesus regarding our "faith" and the words of our mouths. Faith is a very simple common everyday thing. You use and experience your faith in all that you do.

Don't think of faith from some New-Age, Buddhist, or Pagan point of view. These points of view being, oh you have to breathe a certain way, feel a certain way, meditate a certain way, and maintain some special feeling of revelation, certainty, or confidence. Should you experience some "special" feeling of revelation, certainty, or confidence in something, you are more likely than not under attack from Satan and his kingdom. Why would Satan and his kingdom want you to experience this "special" state of being or feeling? So when they take it away from you, they can turn around and suggest something along the lines of the following: "Well, the feeling is no longer there so my faith is gone." Or "I need to get back to feeling like I was earlier in order for my faith to be strong and that which I desire to happen to be accomplished."

Let me ask you a question. Do you have to feel a certain way in order to believe that by flipping a light switch that a light will come on? No. If the light switch doesn't come on when you flip the switch, then what are some of the first things you think about? Are your thoughts not along the lines of, "Well, the bulb must be in need of replacing" Or "Are we having a power outage?" How often do you flip on a light switch and the light not come on, and then turn around and say, "Oh well, my faith must be weak or something is wrong with the way I'm feeling." Never! Why? Because you know and are certain that you're faith and feelings have nothing to do with the light not working. So also is it with the words of our mouths and the usage of our faith. Faith has absolutely nothing to do with feelings, states of being, special revelations, or our flesh!!

Now remember from earlier how I wrote that the reason Satan was kicked out of heaven was for saying, "Oh I will make myself like the Most High!" So what now do you think is his favorite thing to do but to impersonate God. He would love to fill you with various feelings and have you believe that they are coming from God. He would love for you to associate every thing that you experience in your life as being a "special" message from God. He would like for nothing more than for you to believe that a problem with your car means condemnation from God, or that someone treating you in a certain way is a "sign" from God. What did Jesus Himself say about signs and wonders?

Matthew 12:38-40 [38] "Then some of the scribes and Pharisee's answered Him, saying, "Teacher, we want to see a sign from You." [39] But He answered and said to them, "An evil and adulterous generation craves for a sign; and yet no sign shall be given to it but the sign of Jonah the prophet; [40] for just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the sea monster, so shall the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth."

Yes, Jesus performed some signs for His disciples so that they would believe that He was the Messiah. He also healed people, however the healing was for the benefit of the people, both so that they would believe, and also out of compassion. However, for the most part do not expect or look for "special" revelations, feelings, events, or any other type of "interpretation of omens" from Jesus, the Father, or the Holy Spirit of God. This is not how they operate. God is in the details. Let's look at an example of what God wants regarding us and signs from the book of Isaiah when God sent Isaiah to speak for Him to Ahaz the king of Judah.

Isaiah 7:10-14 [10] "Then the Lord spoke again to Ahaz, saying, [11] "Ask a sign for yourself from the Lord your God; make it as deep as Sheol or high as heaven." [12] But Ahaz said, "I will not ask, nor will I test the Lord!" [13] Then he (Isaiah) said, "Listen now, O house of David! Is it too slight a thing for you to try the patience of men, that you will try the patience of my God as well? [14] Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel."

The point here is not to base your faith upon feelings, "so-called signs", states of being, your flesh, or anything other than normal simple belief like when flipping on a light switch.

Luke 17:5-6

[5] "And the apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith!" [6] And the Lord said, "If you had faith like a mustard seed, you would say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and be planted in the sea'; and it would obey you."

Matthew 17:20

"And He said to them, "Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you shall say to this mountain, "Move from here to there,' and it shall move; and nothing shall be impossible to you."

Now think of the effect of the power of your words on others when you believe that what you say is true.

He/she/they is/are: ________. (Ex. stupid, worthless, evil, immoral)

He/she/they always want: ________. (Ex. something of me, etc...)

He/she/they need/s: _______. (Ex. mental help or a doctor, etc...)

He/she/they desire:________. (Ex. to do evil, etc...)

He/she/they always:________.

He/she/they know:_________.

He/she/they have:_________.

He/she/they keep on: ______.

He/she/they feel: ________.

He/she/they feel like: _______.

He/she/they fear: ________.

He/she/they just can't seem to: ______.

He/she/they think: _______.

He/she/they consider: ______.

Whenever we end one of these statements with a negative meaning, such as He/she/they always: give in to temptation and never truly put forth any effort. Just like Isaac blessing Jacob or Jesus saying to the fig tree, so are we doing to them.

Also if you are confessing or speaking something along the lines of the following, "God will never allow for me to do that," or "I'll never have enough faith to be able to do that," then you are creating self-sabotages as I like to call them for yourself. Speak what you want to see, what you want to believe, and what you want to experience until you do.
